to publish a special Millennium history of the village of Brill - "Brillennium" - a limited edition coffee-table book only available by subscription. All 750 copies were snapped up within days and have now become collector's items. While flushed with this success, one of our directors was invited to comment on the manuscript of a first novel.
We were so impressed that we persuaded the author to allow us to publish and promote it. This first commercial title was an ambitious first novel - "Libidan" - from a previously unpublished writer, P.J.Goddard. This was published on 1st May 2001 and has received much critical acclaim. His second novel, “Criminal”, is a dramatic undercover look at modern-day criminal Britain, and the corrupt
establishment that effectively sustains it, with overtones of 16th century Renaissance England. Review copies are available from June 2005. The The Wind In The Pylons by Gareth Lovett Jones, published in October 2003, is a sequel to The Wind In The Willows and an ingenious satire on modern Britain.
Volume Two, in which the much-loved Mole continues his adventures in 90’s Britain
(and beyond), is published in May 2005. "The Ghost Who Didn't Believe In Humans",published in Summer 2004, by Helena Chambers, is a children's story for 8-12 year-olds, with bullying as an underlying theme. Hilltop's core specialism is thought-provoking but accessible
fiction. The company's management has core skills in literary appreciation and editing on the one hand, and promotional marketing on the other. It is our intention to turn on its head the current notion that there is no longer room in the book trade for small independent publishers, and to demonstrate that it is quality, not size, that dictates commercial success. |
